Fly SwatterSoulful Doo-Dads

What's a Doo-Dad... and what makes one soulful?

Glad you asked.

A Doo-Dad is a promotional piece created specifically to distribute to other people in hopes of keeping your name and number in front of their faces, so that they remember you the next time they have a real estate need. The idea of a Doo-Dad is that it's something people will keep around, forever and ever hopefully, and use it, or refer to it often. Thus, reminding them, every time, of your existence.

Popular Doo-Dads include calendars, sports schedules, recipe cards, magnetized business cards, coffee cups and personalized pens; I've also heard rumors of Doo-Dads like fly-swatters, pot-holders and ice-scrapers, although I can't say that I see the connection between being a competent real estate agent and a personalized weapon for killing insects. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Anyway, I'm not a big fan of Doo-Dads. To me, they're just cheap, gimmicky, well, gimmicks that cost a lot of money and don't accomplish their goal of generating business. In most cases, they simply separate a real estate agent from his or her money, but give the agent a sense of doing something to generate business.

(So, Jennifer, tell us how you REALLY feel!)

That said, I do like magnets. Always have. Not just any magnet, though. I don't really see the point of sticking a boring old business card on a magnet, nor do I advise spending a bunch of money on pre-printed magnets that don't have anything to do with who YOU are.

I like magnets that are:

1) extremely clever, or attractive and/or
2) provide useful information that the recipient will truly appreciate.

So, with the goal of providing my beloved SWS'ers with a prospecting tool that IS extremely clever, attractive, usefuHouse of Magnetsl and likely-to-be-appreciated, I teamed up with the House of Magnets to create exactly that.

NOTE!
(Before you roll your eyes and brace yourself for a sales-pitch, relax. I don't work for or on behalf of the House of Magnets, and unless my agent gets on the ball and negotiates me a better deal, I don't get paid a penny if you buy anything from them. I just like their style and I think you will, too.)

Anyway, here's what we came up with.

The concept is that you can create a "TOP TEN" (or "My Favorite...") magnet for your city, neighborhood or market area and YOU get to select the TOP TEN! For example, if you love sushi, you could choose the sushi magnet and select your top ten favorite local sushi bars. If you're a dessert-hound, you could create a list of your top ten favorite spots to go after dinner.

Here are some of the Top Ten's we came up with, but we're open to your ideas, too!
§  Sushi bars
§  Coffee shops
§  Romantic dining
§  Dog Parks
§  Wine bars
§  Dessert spots
§  Pizza places
§  Hikes
§  Burger joints
§  Surf spots

Below are examples of real live TOP TEN magnets. If you'd like to create YOUR VERY OWN, just contact Gina Dotson at the House of Magnets and she'll take GREAT care of you.
 Sushi

Here's a sample of the sushi magnet.

Dessert Magnet

And another one for dessert spots.

Again, you'd have the freedom to choose your own favorites for your city, market area or even a particular neighborhood.

Referral Directory

And there's nothing magic about the Number Ten. Or even the concept of "Favorite." Some agents have created custom lists of Resources for Dog-Lovers or Local Merchants. As you may know, I put my Referral Directory on a magnet.

So, if this sounds like fun, just contact Gina Dotson at the House of Magnets and she'll set you up.
