Why do I not put the time in calling my SOI?  I just changed real estate companies and I should be calling everyone with the news.  I have called a dozen or so, but day after day goes by without further calling.  What is my problem?  I know right from wrong but?Huh  Can anyone suggest a solution for this laziness(?).

What kind of responses are you getting from the people you've called so far?

If there's anything I've learned about "seducing" your SOI, it's that personal contact needs to be about the person you're contacting, not about yourself.  Put yourself in the other person's shoes - would you get excited if your insurance agent called you to say she changed companies, or would you SAY "that's nice" but THINK "what's that got to do with me, can I get back to my TV show please?"   Wink

I think it's wonderful that you are taking this opportunity to get in touch with your SOI, but for a subject like this that is more about "you" than about "them", you may be better off sending out a personal note with your new business card enclosed, and saving your phone calling energy for making lunch dates and other "what's in it for them" exercises.   Smiley

You bring up a good point about my message is not too exciting to them.  What I am finding out is that no one really cares what agency that I work for so I guess I have formed a good relationship with them.

However, my real concern is why am I only calling a dozen people out of 140.  What is really preventing me from calling many more or all of them?

Wow, Fiona - you stole my thunder.

I'll add a couple of things. I hate to make personal phone calls. They were part of my business plan, but I finally took them out because I wasn't doing them and I was always frustrated with myself. I don't really enjoy chatting on the phone, so it just wasn't a natural thing for me to do.

The only way I'm comfy placing a call is if I have a darn good reason for it. If I'm calling simply to mark a name off my list, it won't go well. If I feel I'm pestering someone, I'm sure it comes across loud and clear. I figure that I've done more damage than good with my effort.

However, I have no problem making calls if I actually have a purpose - a real purpose. For example, I do enjoy going out for lunch, coffee or cocktails with my friends. It's fairly easy for me to call someone and invite them out, believe it or not (although email is easier of course). Or if I have a bona fide question for someone - easy peasy. Or to thank them for a referral or other favor. Or, of course, since I'm a girl... it's easy enough to call a girlfriend to whine about the DBF (although I try not to do that too often - bad for the credibility unfortunately).

Here's a blog I wrote awhile back about this very topic: http://activerain.com/blogsview/512303/SOI-Seduction-Tips-for

So, Ron, stop fretting. You need a new plan to reconnect with your SOI. It doesn't have to be a blanket plan, just take it slow - name by name. Do a mass-email to the crowd (non-salesy), maybe send out a reconnection letter, but RELAX.

Thanks Jennifer and Fiona for helping me out!  I understand that I have the wrong message to tell my SOI and maybe that is why I called so few of them.  I will regroup my thoughts and plans and remove the focus on me.  It does make sense to me now!

Fiona = are you Irish? "Learned from the best, I did..." sounds Irish to me.

Honesty! And it's an okay thing! Go out and get some new clients. When you feel like contacting the "SOI" you can do that for whatever reason. 140 doesn't sound like much to me. I could be wrong but I have approx., in my day, over 1000 people who know what I do, can contact me if they wanted. I still get phone calls, even one today. But I moved to a different area and I refer out to local agents that can spend the time to take care of them properly.

Don't worry.... There is lots of marketing to do and so many people in your life to meet and enjoy a little time with.

This is my statement but I agree completely with Fiona on her first post. Nicely stated and should be followed!

Regards and all the best business,
