In My Own Words...
“I’m a writer!”
If you’ve never heard my schtick on why this is such an important phrase to me, check out my blog on Elevator Speeches here. Basically, it says that if you’re excited about what you do… if you’re proud of what you do… if you’re good at what you do, you don’t need a fancy elevator speech. Your enthusiasm and self-confidence will create an aura around you that’s magnetic to everyone you meet!
So, yes, I’m a writer; I’m also a speaker and a trainer and a real estate agent, and I do a little consulting from time to time. Oh, and I’m an introvert. Seriously.
I started writing professionally (if you can call it that) in 2006, when I finally finished “that book” I’d started back in, oh, probably 2003. “That book” was released in early 2007 with the title: Sell with Soul: The New Agent’s Guide to an Extraordinary Career in Real Estate. I never really thought anyone would actually buy it, so I confess that I didn’t put much effort into the design or marketing. But oops! I was wrong! People DID buy it, and DID like it, so I immediately went to work on the much higher-quality 2nd edition which was released in 2008 with a new subtitle – SWS: Creating an Extraordinary Career in Real Estate without Losing Your Friends, Your Principles or Your Self-Respect.
My third book: If You’re Not Having Fun Selling Real Estate, You’re Not Doing it Right came out in early 2010, and is a sequel, of sorts, to Sell with Soul. PROSPECT with SOUL for Real Estate Agents will be out in mid-2011. Also in the works is a non-real-estate-related book tentatively titled The Reluctant Prospector, but I can’t seem to find the time to finish it. If you’d like to “encourage” me to get back on it, your gentle butt-kicking is welcome…
About Jennifer Allan-Hagedorn
Jennifer Allan-Hagedorn was a top producing real estate broker, and now a published author, a speaker and a trainer.
She has written five books about the business of selling real estate, including her flagship book: Sell with Soul: Creating an Extraordinary Career in Real Estate without Losing Your Friends, Your Principles or Your Self-Respect. Her book shows new agents how to jumpstart their career so that they can experience success before they become discouraged and risk being just another real estate statistic.
Jennifer began her writing career after ten years of selling real estate successfully in Denver, Colorado. She was dismayed at the low level of professionalism she frequently encountered in the real estate industry and, with her "soulful" message, hopes to encourage the real estate community to self-correct the negative stereotypes of the profession.
Jennifer's message to agents is that they should strive to be competent real estate advisors, rather than competent real estate prospectors. Her books are written with this philosophy in mind. The title - Sell with Soul - is really just a catchy phrase for following the Golden Rule in the day-to-day practice of real estate. Treating clients and prospects respectfully, as the salesperson him or herself would like to be treated. Being competent, reliable and fair, and motivated by a true desire to earn a commission, not just show up at closing with hand outstretched.
During her real estate career, Jennifer worked at several brokerage firms and eventually opened her own company, New Precedent Real Estate, in 2004. From 1999 through 2002, she was the top producer in her office, and a member of the RE/MAX Platinum Club, which is awarded to the company's highest producers. In her first year of selling real estate, she was the second highest producing rookie agent out of approximately 75 other new licensees.
She is a regular columnist at Realty Times, NewsGenu.is and other online media outlets, and one of the industry's most popular bloggers.
About Jennifer Allan-Hagedorn, the Real Estate Agent
Jennifer sold real estate in Denver from 1996 - 2008. She was runner-up for Rookie of the Year her first year and the top producing agent in her office several years in a row. Because she was such a Super Salesperson? No, not really. She succeeded because she took great care of her clients, as her first priority, not as an afterthought when her prospecting was done.
Her Real Estate Philosophy
"I believe that a successful real estate transaction is one where everyone is smiling around the closing table. Where both buyer and seller feel they were treated fairly and respectfully and are happy with the outcome. Unless there is good reason, I will not beat anyone up, simply because we're on opposite sides of a negotiation. I see myself as a trusted advisor, not a smiley-faced salesperson. I won't tell my clients what they want to hear simply to get their business. However, even though I'm not shy about offering my opinion and advice (that's what I’m paid for!), I know who’s the boss (it’s not me). My clients make all final decisions!"
